Happy Independence Day! The History Of The Thomas Jefferson Building

Happy Independence Day! TCG hopes you enjoy your weekend with friends, family, and fireworks. To celebrate Independence Day, today we are recognizing a historic work of federal architecture known as the Thomas Jefferson Building. It is the oldest of the four libraries of congress, originally opened in 1897. It’s built in Beaux-Arts style, an architectural design form known for its classicizing façade and emphasis on interior design. It contains classical work from the period known as the “American Renaissance” with works from renowned American sculptors and painters. The libraries of congress hold the most important documents in American History, including the hallmark of Independence Day, the Declaration of Independence. The building was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1965.
