Local Spotlight: Top Green Thumb Counties of Florida

LOCAL SPOTLIGHT: TOP GREEN THUMB COUNTIES OF FLORIDA

It was just announced that Lee County residents and businesses recycled a whopping 76% of the waste generated countywide in 2020, earning second place in all of Florida! The top spot ended in a tie between Charlotte and Pinellas counties, both having a 78% recycling rate. It was noted by Gulfshore Business that “the amount of material Lee County residents recycled in 2020 would be enough to fill 152 football fields with material 70 ft high – as high as the tallest point of the Sanibel Bridge.” Another great statistic shows that total waste generation in Lee County decreased 63,000 tons, 2.76%, from 2019 to 2020.
