Town of Big Cypress Development Supported in 6-0 Vote by Collier Planning Commission
This past Thursday, Collier County’s Planning Commission voted 6-0 in support of a new series of developments planned in eastern Collier County, known as “The Town of Big Cypress”. After two hours of debate, including deliberation over the purpose of the plan and hearing from a handful of public speakers, the vote came to a resolute 6-0 vote.
The town plans on adding up to 1.3 million Sq Ft. of commercial development on 515 acres. Including on this space would be 900 additional affordable housing units, 500 single-family homes, an elementary school, utilities and a 43-acre community park. Up to 9,250 residences could be built in the town as proposed. Another vote will take place on May 25th by the Collier County Commission concerning the town agreement.
